Save the Yelling 🗣🤭
When yelling is a part of their daily life, it loses its power when you really need it. ⚠️When you need to jolt them. When they need to stop. ⚠️
The other day as we were leaving the library, G walked in front of us. He usually stops when he gets to a curb to enter a parking lot, but this time he didn’t. I yelled “stop!” 🗣 Because we save our yelling for emergency situation, he froze. If he was desensitized to yelling, would he have stopped? 🤨😬
Alternative options for when you just want to scream:
🌟 Walk away. Take a break. Even if your kids are crying. Walking away and saying you need to take a break is less damaging than screaming.
🌟 Take some deep breaths.
- Take a deep breath in through your nose, and let your belly push your hand out. Your chest should not move.
-Breathe out through pursed lips as if you were whistling. Feel the hand on your belly go in, and use it to push all the air out.
- Do this breathing 3 to 10 times.
