Some ice cold LIFE SKILLS

Scooping and transferring objects are two different life skills. Both of which are so important for toddler development. They are major skills that you and I use every day.

In fact, they may have been one of the first skills I used this morning around 5:45am as I scooped the coffee grounds out the canister and transferred them into the coffee filter.

When toddlers scoop and transfer they are exploring…

  • Gravity. They notice how objects will drop.

  • Cause and effect. When they rotate or dump the spoon, they cause the ice to fall.

  • Weight. The spoon of ice feels a lot heavier than an empty spoon.

  • Fine motor skills. Scooping with a spoon allows your toddler to work on those muscles and motions they need to learn to feed and serve themselves.
